Major Projects and Initiatives

To ensure the continued growth of arts and culture in the state, Arts Victoria is responsible for many 'behind-the-scenes' activities, leading the development of and investment in a range of major projects and initiatives. These activities are often undertaken in collaboration with other government departments or arts organisations. This section is an overview of some of these projects and initiatives, which include:

Landmark cultural infrastructure projects:

• Melbourne Recital Centre and Melbourne Theatre Company - a new recital centre and theatre complex for Melbourne
• Southbank Cultural Precinct Redevelopment - re-invigorating Southbank, a precinct home to many of Melbourne's arts organisations
• Theatre Alive - a website devoted to the best of Victoria's small and independent theatre
• Victorian Cultural Network - access to the digital collections of some of Victoria's major cultural organisations through a single website

Events or artworks:

• Great Petition - an artwork celebrating the centenary of women's suffrage
• Melbourne Winter Masterpieces ­- a series of blockbuster exhibitions held each winter
• Victorian Indigenous Art Awards - the richest Indigenous art awards in the country

Collaborative initiatives or those which further enhance the state's robust cultural life:

• City of Literature - raising the profile and status of literature in Victoria
• Regional Partnerships Program - supporting local councils in regional Victoria that provide professional arts and cultural programs.
