Victoria Rocks Grants Announced For Local Music

Date: 17 July 2009

Victorian music stalwarts and emerging musicians alike are set to benefit from $379,581 in grants through Victoria Rocks, the Brumby Labor Government's contemporary music funding program.

Arts Minister Lynne Kosky made the announcement at Triple R studios where she joined previous Victoria Rocks funding recipients Jen Cloher, Tobias Cummings, and bands Tic Toc Tokyo and Wagons for a live music event that showcased the achievements of the program since it was launched in 2007.

Ms Kosky said the latest round of grants highlighted the strength of Victoria's local and emerging music scene which covers every genre from gothic rock to jazz.

"The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to support emerging talent and strengthen the local music scene through the Victoria Rocks program," Ms Kosky said.

"Victoria Rocks looks at the industry as a whole by supporting a range of activity including recording, touring, participation in important music conferences and promotional opportunities including video clips and website development.

"The program also assists music industry organisations to promote access, education and innovation for Victorian musicians to enhance their skills and further their careers."

The grant recipients in this round include well-known artists such as Dallas Crane frontman Dave Larkin, singer songwriters Monique Brumby and Dave Arden as well as debut albums from emerging bands The Bride Stripped Back, The Voodoo Economic and Indigenous artist Lee Morgan.

"This round supports artists and audiences from right across the state and with a range of backgrounds including culturally and linguistically diverse musicians and artists with a disability," Ms Kosky said.
