Spaces and Places
Art and creativity all over Victoria
Victoria has so many different cultural experiences to choose from - performing arts, visual arts, festivals and celebrations, museums, historic sites and, of course, the artists themselves!
New work is constantly being dreamt of, made and presented by a creative community which can be found in every city and town, in regional arts centres, public and commercial art galleries, regional arts festivals and artists' open studios.
Many of the spaces and places where art is created and can be seen are unique in themselves - from historic heritage buildings with rich reference to their past glories, to brilliantly-designed contemporary frameworks from which their artistic contents shine. Recital centres, concert halls, community centres, artist-run spaces, sculptors working in sheds behind wineries, visual artists located in Victorian-era homesteads, theatre companies presenting their work in the great outdoors, jazz played in intimate nightclubs or bluestone lanes, silversmiths in bush settings - you never know what you will find once you start exploring.
And because of its compact size, it's possible to see a lot of creativity in a relatively short time. Every time you have the time to leave the daily grind behind, check out at least one of Victoria's cultural experiences, whether it be in Melbourne or further afield. And take in the spaces and places!
