Music Touring

Please note: applications for funding through the Contemporary and Live Music Development program have now closed for 2011/12.

Music Touring grants are available across two streams:

  1. Touring Projects, which provide support for established artists to tour to regional, interstate and international markets
  2. Professional Travel, which enables artists or their managers to travel to music conferences and business meetings outside Victoria.

Eligibility

Touring Projects
Professional, original contemporary music acts with a track record of live performance with ongoing touring plans.

Professional Travel
Victorian based management companies or organisations on behalf of Victorian musicians or themselves.

Closing dates

  • 5 September 2011 for projects starting on or after 1 December 2011
  • 7 November 2011 for projects starting on or after 1 February 2012
  • 13 March 2012 for projects starting on or after 1 July 2012

Please note: it takes approximately 12 weeks from the closing date until funding results are available.

Funds available

Touring Projects
National touring - funding up to $10,000 can be sought for costs relating to regional Victorian and interstate touring.
International touring - funding of up to $15,000 can be sought for costs relating to international touring.

Professional Travel
For domestic activity the maximum available is $2,000 including a capped rate of $1,000 per person. For international activity the maximum available is $10,000 including a capped rate of $5,000 per person.

To apply for funding you must:

For your application to be eligible:

  • you must include a balanced budget
  • you must contribute at least 25% of the total cost of the project
  • your project must take place on or after 1 December 2011 for the September round, on or after 1 February 2012 for the November round and on or after 1 July 2012 for the March 2012 round.

Touring Projects
If you are applying through the Touring Projects stream, you will need to include details of marketing, promotional, publicity and audience development strategies relating to this touring activity. You should also include a timeline for related activity together with the benefits and the next steps beyond this tour.

Professional Travel
If you are applying for Professional Travel, you will need to provide an itinerary for your proposed travel and details regarding the purpose of the travel, potential outcomes and benefits, and how you will evaluate the activity.

Touring Projects

Applications for Touring Projects will be assessed and prioritised according to the following criteria across the touring category:

  • Professional touring track record and demonstrated commitment to ongoing live music performance
  • Quality of the tour strategy and potential for audience development
  • Evidence of a planned media and publicity strategy
  • Provision of a credible and realistic Budget with appropriate support material.

Professional Travel

Professional travel applications will be assessed and prioritised according to the following criteria:

  • Provision of a credible and realistic Budget with appropriate quotes
  • Quality of itinerary and intended activity
  • Clearly articulated benefits and outcomes
  • Provision of confirmation letters, emails or invitations related to this activity.

All applications go through a standard assessment processAssessment ProcessAll eligible applications are reviewed by a Peer Assessment Panel (except for programs that attract a high volume of applications, where Arts Victoria staff may suggest a shortlist). The Panel’s recommendations are presented to the Minister for the Arts to make the final decisions. Applicants are notified in writing and can seek feedback by speaking to program staff. , including review and evaluation by a peer assessment panelPeer Assessment PanelsPeer Assessment Panels are a standard method used by Arts Victoria to assess funding applications and make recommendations for approval by the Minister for the Arts. Each Panel comprises representatives from across the arts industry and other relevant areas..

As a recipient of Arts Victoria funding, you are required to:

  • Notify Arts Victoria of any changes to your proposed project
  • Publicly acknowledge the support of the Victorian Government using specific logos and text
  • Acquit your grant by completing a written report on the outcomes of your funded project.

The Victorian Government logoThe Arts Victoria logo must always appear with the Victorian Government logo. must be included on all promotional materials produced by the grant recipient in relation to the funded activity.

These may include (but are not restricted to):

  • Posters, fliers and brochures
  • Advertisements
  • Invitations
  • Information and education kits
  • Signage
  • Programs and catalogues
  • Websites.

The size and position of the logo should be commensurate with the level of funding provided by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria in relation to other supporters.

The Arts Victoria logo device is available in a variety of formats, please take note of the guidelines for its use.

Text Acknowledgement

The following text/verbal acknowledgement of Victorian Government support should be used in any speeches, media releases, interviews and other circumstances where a logo may not be possible:

Acquittal Reports

When your funded activity is completed, you must provide Arts Victoria with an acquittal reportAcquittal ReportA written evaluation of the funded activity and a statement that fully accounts for the expenditure of funds provided. .

Failure to satisfactorily acquit funding will make you ineligible for future Arts Victoria funding and may result in action to recover the grant.
