Organisations
One of the great strengths underpinning Victoria's arts sector is the strong and diverse mix of arts and cultural organisations. These range from the small to the major, from industry service organisations to producers and presenters, and cover all artforms.
The Organisations program provides operational funding to a wide range of key arts and cultural organisations across Victoria - including both competitive, peer-assessed funding and invitation-only multi-year packages of support.
The program aims to deliver a dynamic and well managed arts and cultural infrastructure which produces and presents quality arts activities, and promotes the participation of all Victorians in the arts.
The Organisations program provides funding for Victorian-based arts and cultural organisations or organisations delivering significant outcomes for Victoria. It aims to achieve a balance across:
- artform/activity
- region
- reach
- diversity.
The program delivers on the following key objectives outlined in the Arts Victoria Act 1972:
- developing and improving the knowledge, understanding, appreciation and practice of the arts in Victoria; and
- increasing the availability and accessibility of the arts to the public in Victoria.
The program works with and is informed by the following:
- Multicultural Victoria Act 2004
- Aboriginal Heritage Act 2006
- Disability Discrimination Act 1992
- Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006
Organisations Program Review
Arts Victoria is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of the Organisations program and the portfolio of organisations it supports.
The Review will consider the changing needs of the sector, how best to support a diverse range of dynamic small to medium arts organisations and will address current constraints limiting access to the program by new organisations. The review and refresh of the Organisations program will include wide consultation with the sector in the first half of 2012.

Categories
The program has three categories:
- Annual Operations - an open, competitive category for small arts organisations to support the costs associated with developing, delivering and promoting a one year arts or cultural program.
- Multi-year Operations - This category is currently under review. Please visit the Organisations Program Review page for details.
- Federal Partnerships - provides multi-year packages of support for key Victorian arts organisations under joint agreements between the Victorian and Commonwealth Governments. This category includes support for Victorian-based Major Performing Arts Companies and Victorian visual arts organisations supported through the Visual Arts and Craft Strategy (VACS). Application is by invitation only.
