The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series brings major international art exhibitions exclusively to Melbourne each winter.

The series was initiated by the Victorian Government to:

  • Attract national and international visitors to Victoria during what was traditionally the quieter tourism period.
  • Generate significant economic impact for the State
  • Generate significant national and international media exposure for Victoria

Since 2004, there have been 16 blockbuster exhibitions which combined have attracted almost 4.3 million local, interstate and international attendances:

In 2014, there will be two Melbourne Winter Masterpieces Exhibitions - Italian Masterpieces from Spain's Royal Court: Museo del Prado  at National Gallery of Victoria and Dreamworks Animation at ACMI.
