The Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series brings major international art exhibitions exclusively to Melbourne each winter.
The series was initiated by the Victorian Government to:
- Attract national and international visitors to Victoria during what was traditionally the quieter tourism period.
- Generate significant economic impact for the State
- Generate significant national and international media exposure for Victoria
Since 2004, there have been 14 blockbuster exhibitions which combined have attracted almost 3.8 million local, interstate and international attendances:
In 2013, there will be two Melbourne Winter Masterpieces Exhibitions - Monet's Garden at National Gallery of Victoria and Hollywood Costume at ACMI.
