The artists in schools program creates the opportunity for practising
professional artists to work with young people in Victorian primary and
secondary schools. It involves schools and communities in innovative projects
while providing professional development for teachers and outstanding
learning experiences for students. The artists are from many fields; they may be involved in literature,
performing arts, visual arts or design. The program is funded by the Victorian State Government through the Department
of Education and Training (DE&T) and is managed by Arts Victoria.

Project Reports
In
2001, twenty six schools across Victoria received funding of $3,500 towards artists in schools projects. Each project is documented by a report
written by the school and an artist's diary.
This online publication, artists in schools 2001, is comprised
of the school reports, including a few photos and images from the artist's
diaries. It provides an invaluable resource for teachers and artists interested
in being involved in the program or developing a school funded artist-in-residence
project.
The full artists' diaries are held at the Education Resource Centre (ERC), the Faculty of Education Library of the University of Melbourne - for the catalogue see www.lib.unimelb.edu.au/collections/erc/aisd/index.html.
To arrange to see the diaries please contact the ERC Information Desk (Telephone 8344 8316).
