Victoria - The Place To Be

Collections

Victoria enjoys a rich range of art and cultural collections .

They are as diverse as Victorian community itself, including everything from Ned Kelly's armour to Kylie Minogue's hotpants; indigenous artefacts to international masterpieces; rare manuscripts to the digital stories of contemporary Victorians.

These collections are maintained and, where possible, publicly displayed, by the State's arts agencies - The Arts Centre, the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI), Museum Victoria, National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), State Library of Victoria and the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV); as well as non-arts agencies such as the Koorie Heritage Trust, and Heritage Victoria

Victoria's regional public galleries and community museums also hold collections of local, state, national, and even international significance.

Collections in major regional Victorian art galleries, such as Bendigo, Ballarat and Geelong, rival those in other Australian capital cities; while others hold outstanding specialist collections, from textiles in Ararat ceramics in Shepparton and decorative arts in Hamilton, to photography in Horsham and contemporary Australian sculpture in Mildura.
