East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts Corporation
The East Gippsland Aboriginal Arts Corporation (EGAAC) was established in the early 1990's by a group of enthusiastic Koori artists and performers who were seeking to develop their skills and showcase their culture and talents. Since it's establishment, EGAAC artists have exhibited locally, nationally and internationally and their work is held in various state and national collections.
Located in Bairnsdale on Victoria's east coast, EGAAC is 100% Aboriginal-owned and operated. The arts co-operative nurtures a distinctive and original style in local Koori artists, incorporating traditional markings particular to the region and contemporary designs.
EGAAC provides a unique cultural experience for visitors interested in Aboriginal art. Its gallery has a collection of rich and vibrant art created by artists who traditionally come from this region, the Gunai/Kurnai people, as well as other Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who have made the area their home.
"My mother taught me to draw with charcoal from our camp fire and on the clean swept earth around us. Art connects me to the land, to my respected culture and the spirits of my people, it is always a privilege for me to have known, lived and worked with my Elders who are no longer with us." Aunty Rachel Mullett, EGAAC artist.
