Victoria - The Place To Be

Groundswell

Three of Australia's most exciting young music acts are hitting the road in October as part of Groundswell.

Singer/songwriter Deline Briscoe, soul fusion act Radical Son and indie band The Medics are about to set off for a three week east coast tour, showcasing some of the best new music from emerging Australian artists.

Deline Briscoe (VIC) is one of Australia's great upcoming singer songwriters: a world class songstress with a potent mix of rootsy soul, gospel and tear-jerking ballads. Deline conquered the Australian festival circuit with her former band The Briscoe Sisters and is now working on her solo debut with producer Airi Ingram (Drum Drum/Grrilla Step). An emotive and honest singer with a smooth groove, Deline has shared the stage with Ruthie Foster, Gurrumul, Jimmy Cliff and Yothu Yindi, and was the recipient of a Victoria Rocks grant last year.

Two time Deadly Awards nominee Radical Son (NSW) has spent the past five years crafting a unique sound which combines a hip hop aesthetic and soulful social statement. A popular collaborator, Radical contributed to the latest Urthboy and The Last Kinection albums as well as Get Up Mob's 2008 release of From Little Things Big Things Grow. From personal experience, Radical has learned the transformative nature of music and his songwriting charts his path from a troubled past to humility and healing.

The Medics (QLD) are a Cairns based band whose exciting sonic palette ranges from quiet ambience through epic build ups and breakdowns. Hugely popular in Townsville and Cairns, the buzz on this talented band is travelling south and their fan base is spreading. The Medics have supported The Panics, The Grates, Faker, Blue King Brown, Kisschasy and Something With Numbers, building a reputation for a unique songwriting style, rich harmonies and intense live performances.

Alongside the three headline acts, audiences at various points along the tour will be treated to guest appearances by some of Australia's most beloved musicians, showing their support for these talented upcoming artists.

The Groundswell initiative was developed in response to the indigenous contemporary music action plan, produced by the Contemporary Music Development Working Group of the Cultural Ministers Council. It is designed to help the indigenous contemporary music sector to achieve its full potential.

As well as the opportunity to take their music to new audiences, the Groundswell artists have access to support and advice music industry professionals to assist them in developing their performance careers beyond the tour.

Groundswell is co-sponsored by Arts NSW, Arts Queensland, Arts Victoria and the Commonwealth Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, with the support of the Australian Performing Right Association and The Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society, 3RRR radio in Melbourne, FBi 94.5fm in Sydney and 4ZZZ in Brisbane.
