Victoria - The Place To Be

Trevor "Turbo” Brown

Trevor "Turbo" Brown, a Latji Latji man from Mildura in the state's north-west, creates evocative paintings filled with animals and expressive visions of country.

Born in 1967, Trevor did not have a great start to life. Born with an intellectual disability he spent much of his youth homeless. It was not until he was cared for by his 'adopted' parents, Uncle Herb and Aunty Bunta that Trevor's talents were developed.

His first solo exhibition was in 2004 at the Koori Heritage Trust where all twenty paintings were sold. Subsequently his work has been acquired by the National Gallery of Victoria and the National Gallery of Australia. As reported in The Age "Judith Ryan, National Gallery of Victoria senior curator of Indigeneous art, says he produces work of "energy and integrity that is strongly expressive of his cultural identity."

"When I paint I feel like I'm in the dreamtime and can see all the animals and birds that live there." Turbo Brown
