This category supports the creative development of new work across all art forms.
Applications may cover one or more stages in the creative development process that will generally take place within 12 months.
Eligibility

Priority will be given to projects that will have an eventual public outcome.
Musicians seeking funding for CD recordings should apply to the Victoria Rocks program
Closing Dates
- 3 August 2009 for activities commencing from 1 January 2010
- 1 March 2010 for activities commencing from 1 July 2010
It takes approximately 15 weeks from the closing date until funding results are available.
Funds Available
From $4,000 to $20,000, in increments of $500
In the 2007-2008 financial year 292 applications were received and 60 (21%) were funded. The total funds awarded was $648,000.
To apply for funding you must:
- Complete the application form which includes a budget. Download the forms and full guidelines as a:
- Submit a written proposal (see below)
- Provide artistic support material relevant to your project (eg DVD, images, manuscript excerpt, CD)
- Provide supporting documents (eg letters of support or interest in presenting/exhibiting the work created, reviews, letters of confirmation from artists involved)
Written Proposal
This is the main part of your application and must clearly address the following criteria:
Artistic Merit
- The creative content of the work, including the concept and rationale
- The working process or creative methodology
- The aims and objectives of your project
- Who
the artists involved are, their experience and their responsibilities.
Include relevant CVs or biographies in your supporting documentation,
and where possible, provide written confirmation of these artists'
availability.
Practice Development
- How the project will improve the skills, abilities and knowledge of participating artists
- How the project will provide an opportunity for the participating artists to realise art form or career development
- How you will evaluate the work and the creative process
- What
the potential outcomes are and future opportunities for the work being
developed, including information on how the work could reach its
potential audience.
Project Viability
- How you are going to manage your project
- Where the project will take place
- When
the project will take place. Provide clear information on when you will
start and finish the work you are seeking support for. For projects
over several months, use a timeline
- Any additional budget information.
Applications are competitively assessed and prioritised according to the following criteria:
- Artistic merit – A strong underlying artistic concept for this work, and a high level of creative excellence and originality.
- Practice Development – The opportunity for the artist/s involved to make a progression in their practice or career.
- Project Viability – The ability of the applicant to deliver the proposed activity and achieve the described outcomes.

Applications go through a standard assessment process, including review and evaluation by a peer assessment panel.

As a recipient of Arts Victoria funding, you are required to:
- Notify Arts Victoria of any changes to your proposed project
- Publicly acknowledge the support of the Victorian Government using specific logos and text
- Acquit your grant by completing a written report on the outcomes of your funded project.
Logos and Text Acknowledgement
Logos
The Arts Victoria logo device must be included on all promotional materials produced by the grant recipient in relation to the funded activity.

These may include (but are not restricted to):
- Posters, fliers and brochures
- Advertisements
- Invitations
- Information and education kits
- Signage
- Programs and catalogues
- Websites.
The size and position of the logo should be commensurate with the level of funding provided by the Victorian Government through Arts Victoria in relation to other supporters.

Logo for Literature Organisations or Projects
In 2008, Melbourne was officially designated a UNESCO City of Literature. All literature projects or organisations receiving Arts Victoria funding should be branded under the initiative by using the UNESCO Melbourne City of Literature logo devlce on all marketing and promotional materials. This should be used in addition to the standard logo and acknowledgements outlined above.

Text Acknowledgement
The following text/verbal acknowledgement of Victorian Government support should be used in any speeches, media releases, interviews and other circumstances where a logo may not be possible:

Acquittal Reports
When your funded activity is completed, you must provide Arts Victoria with an acquittal report within 30 days.
Failure to satisfactorily acquit funding will make you ineligible for future Arts Victoria funding and may result in action to recover the grant.
