This category supports initiatives that will benefit Victorian artists and contribute to the overall strengthening and development of the Victorian contemporary music scene.
A key focus is to promote access, education and innovation for Victorian musicians to further their careers.
Funded activities will significantly enhance at least one of the following:
- The access of emerging musicians to professional skills, information and/or facilities.
- Mentoring and performance skills.
- Regional touring circuits and performance opportunities.
- The uptake of new technologies.
- Networking and advanced professional development and/or the profile of the contemporary music sector.
Eligibility
The Strategic Music Industry Partnerships category accepts applications from organisations that have a demonstrated history of delivering quality artistic services to the Victorian contemporary music sector.
Priority will be given to organisations based in Victoria.
Closing Dates
- 7 September 2009 for projects commencing after 1 January 2010.
- 1 March 2010 for projects commencing after 1 July 2010.
It takes approximately 10 weeks from the closing date until funding results are available.
Funds Available
Funding of up to $10,000 is available for either an annual program of activities or an individual project.
Arts Victoria will not typically fund the entire cost of a project and applicants are encouraged to have support from other sources or from other funding organisations. As a general rule, the larger the funding requested, the higher the level of support required from other sources.
In the 2007-2008 financial year 36 applications were received and 16 (44%) were funded. The total funds awarded was $349,107 and individual grants ranged from $1,500 to $151,800.
To apply for funding you must:
- Discuss your proposal with the Victoria Rocks Program Manager (prior to submitting an application)
- Complete the application form which includes a budget. Download the application form and full guidelines as a:
- Submit a written proposal (see below)
- Provide support material relevant to your project (eg Curriculum Vitaes, business plan)
Written Proposal
This is the main part of your application and must include all the requested information.
Proposals should be typed and in a minimum of 12 point font on plain white paper and should not exceed two pages (excluding budget or support material).
You should structure your proposal to clearly and concisely address each of the points specified in the program guidelines.
Make sure you include:
- The nature of the proposal: what do you plan to do?
- What are the needs?
- What opportunities will this create?
- What is the reach of the project and the benefits?
- Who is involved?
- How will the outcomes of the project be evaluated?
Applications are competitively assessed and prioritised according to the following criteria:
- The nature of the proposal's potential to develop, support and impact on the strength of Victoria's contemporary music sector.
- Demonstration of a significant link between the proposed activity and the sector's development needs.
- The potential to provide greater opportunities for Victorians to explore their artistic and vocational interest in contemporary music.
- The reach of the project and in particular, the benefits for regional areas of Victoria.
- The ability of the applicant to deliver the proposed activity and achieve the designated outcomes.
- A demonstrated need for Government funding at a realistic level.
- The calibre of the personnel involved.
- A demonstrated level of financial management, administration, planning and marketing commensurate with the scale of the project and the level of funding requested.
- How the program's success will be measured.
Applications go through a standard assessment process, including review and evaluation by a peer assessment panel.
The current panel members are:
- Michael Agar - Theatre producer, accountant and arts board member
- Andrew Fuller - Musician, arts board member and music industry solicitor
As a recipient of Arts Victoria funding, you are required to:
- Notify Arts Victoria of any changes to your proposed project
- Publicly acknowledge the support of the Victorian Government using specific logos and text
- Acquit your grant by completing a written report on the outcomes of your funded project.

Logos
The Victoria Rocks logo must be included on all promotional materials produced by the grant recipient in relation to the funded activity.

These may include (but are not restricted to):
- Posters, fliers and brochures
- CD package liner notes intended for commercial release
- Sampler CDs
- Advertisements
- Invitations
- Press releases
- Promotional videos
- E-cards, electronic press kits and Websites.
The Victoria Rocks logo is available in a variety of formats, please take note of the guidelines for its use.
Text Acknowledgement
The following text acknowledgement should be use in any speeches, media releases, interviews and other circumstances where a logo may not be possible:

Acquittal Reports
When your funded activity is completed, you must provide Arts Victoria with an acquittal report within 30 days.
Failure to satisfactorily acquit funding will make you ineligible for future Arts Victoria funding and may result in action to recover the grant.
