This coming March, Jin Xing Dance Theatre’s Shanghai Beauty comes to the Arts Centre direct from China.

Shanghai Beauty is a visually stunning, breathtaking and enchanting production that explores the concept of beauty from east to west. Its style draws on European contemporary dance and traditional Chinese influences such as Peking Opera and martial arts.

The work is led by China’s most celebrated dancer and high profile transsexual, Jin Xing, whose story has been made famous by the documentary Colonel Jin Xing: A Unique Destiny.

Shanghai Beauty is a groundbreaking dance work from controversial Chinese writer & choreographer, Jin Xing.

Performed by China’s first major independent dance company, Shanghai Beauty was commissioned by the House of World Cultures, Berlin, and choreographed by Jin Xing in collaboration with Rubato Dance Company, Berlin.
